About Me

Brogan Cameron, B.Mus. (Dalhousie University)

I am an experienced piano teacher and classically trained pianist and organist from Halifax, Nova Scotia. I have been teaching for 9 years, working with students ranging from ages 3-75. I specialize in working with children.

Since starting my career a decade ago, I have focused on making piano lessons a fulfilling experience for my students. My teaching philosophy is grounded in five core values: empowerment, growth, connection, self-expression, and self-discovery. My passion for creativity and my belief that music has the capacity to help students develop life skills is reflected in my fun and innovative teaching approach.

With my extensive teaching experience and 19 years of playing and performing, I have gained expertise that allows me to provide students with problem-solving skills, confidence-building skills, and effective practice techniques. From teaching private lessons to designing and directing local music summer camps, my wealth of experience has provided me with insight on how to make music fun and accessible.

Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is grounded in these core values:

EMPOWERMENT

I value getting to know my students not just as students, but as people with unique personalities and interests. I want to know what interests them, what makes them thrive, and how I can best support them. I strive to inspire my students and help them set achievable goals. Every lesson begins with a check-in to ensure that they understand what they are learning, and more importantly, that they enjoy what they are learning. My goal is to make a difference in my students’ lives through building their confidence, allowing them to express themselves, and empowering them to succeed.

CONNECTION

I firmly believe that music has a unique way of bringing people closer together. My students get the opportunity to participate in various group activities throughout the year, including playing duets and singing carols at our annual Christmas concert. Through these activities, students get to challenge themselves, support their peers, and form new friendships. I strive to create a fun and welcoming environment that makes students feel accepted and excited about music.

GROWTH

Supporting my students and their growth is fundamental to my teaching philosophy. By taking a holistic approach to teaching, I help my students build not only musical skills, but also problem-solving and confidence-building skills that they will carry with them through their everyday lives.

SELF-EXPRESSION

With all of life’s challenges, having an emotional outlet is invaluable. I believe the fundamentals make up only half of the process of learning to play the piano; the other half is finding joy in what you are learning. I take piano lessons to the next level by teaching students the fundamentals in a way that inspires them. There are endless ways to express oneself through music, and I aim to make the piano a sanctuary for students.

SELF-DISCOVERY

I am deeply committed to the growth of my students both musically and personally. By empowering students and teaching them important life skills, I help them discover new things about themselves and what they are capable of. I leave the door open for students to explore and discover their interests, guiding them to understand who they are and what makes them special.
